September product notes

September 13, 2016 clever

We’re in the swing of Back to School and have added some new product features to help districts and applications this fall:

District login contests

For Clever portal users, we’ve introduced a fun way to help students learn how to log into their applications this school year.

Here’s how districts can set it up:

  • Authorize Clever’s Login Contest App: Students will log into this app to compete with other schools in the district.
  • Determine contest period: We recommend running the contest until the end of September.
  • Choose your prize: Ice cream, pizza parties or school supplies all work well!
  • Let teachers know: Use our email template to tell teachers about the contest. You can also customize and print these flyers for the classroom.

Welcome screen for first-time logins

The first time a student or teacher logs into their Clever portal, they’ll now see a welcome screen explaining what Clever is and how we help school districts like theirs. The welcome screen will only appear once per user.

Here’s what a teacher will see the first time they log in:

Viewing apps for specific users

Districts can now see which applications users are scoped to within the student tab of the Data Browser in their Clever dashboard.

And in K-12, that means millions of student accounts — most of them guarded with just one simple password. That's the reality we dug into during a recent Cybersecure Live webinar. Here’s the breakdown of why the "handle is jiggling" and how to bolt the door.

The Infrastructure of Trust: Winning the United States K-12 Market in 2026
