Give your sync a summer vacation

May 26, 2015 clever

We’ve released a new sync “pause” function to manage school-year rollovers! Schools can now freeze data in their applications for the summer while they make changes in their SIS.

What will happen when a school sync is paused for the summer?
SFTP uploads will not be processed, and automatic syncs will not run. This means a school can make changes in their SIS without interrupting student and teacher access to applications. Schools can continue to update sharing permissions with applications, but an application’s sync status will appear as “paused” in the Clever Dashboard.

What do schools need to do?
We’ve schedule a default pause for all schools to begin on June 15, and data will begin syncing again on August 10. We know school-year schedules can vary, so schools can modify these dates as needed in their Clever Dashboard with these instructions.

How should schools set the dates?

  • First Day: This will be the first day a sync is paused, which should coincide with the school’s last day of their ‘14-15 school year. Note, ‘14-15 data should still be active in the SIS on this day.
  • Last Day: This will be the last day a sync is paused, which should be the day before a school’s SIS data is active for the ‘15-16 school year. For example, if a school ‘15-16 data will be active in their SIS on 8/15/15, the Last Day should be set for 8/14/15. This may also be a school’s last day of summer.

Clever Announces Smarter MFA for Schools on Microsoft: Introducing Device Trust

For 87% of school organizations, implementing MFA for students still feels like a far-fetched cybersecurity dream. The concern isn’t just technical — it’s practical. Will it slow down logins? Will younger students be able to manage it? Will teachers end up fielding a flood of helpdesk requests and mount a rebellion? Classroom MFA was built […]

(Student) identities are the new front door for attackers. Is your school ready?

The old model of school cybersecurity was built around networks — protect the edge, control the hardware, keep the bad stuff out. That model is gone. Today, your users are the front door. And in K-12, that means millions of student accounts — most of them guarded with just one simple password. That's the reality we dug into during a recent Cybersecure Live webinar. Here’s the breakdown of why the "handle is jiggling" and how to bolt the door.
